On Mother’s Day,Sunday May 10th,  the Swasey/Fiske/Carcione clans all rolled out of bed early to participate in the 2009 Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure® Mother’s Day 5K walk/run for the second year in a row.  The walkers recorded their PR coming in around 50 minutes, almost 10 minutes faster than 2008.  The runners  decided to stay together this year to complete the run as a group and came in around the 40 minute mark.

With over 80,000 people in attendance, this is one of our favorite days of the year, and we are proud to support such a great cause as a family.

It’s official! Gary and I are signed up for our very first full marathon. We decided that as an incentive, and reward, we would take a mini-vacay for this momentous occasion. Planning and paying for the trip should keep us motivated throughout training, and then getting to explore a new destination should be a proper reward post Marathon completion.

With it’s flat, fast, fun course and perfect running weather we settled on the 2010 Rock n’ Roll Arizona Marathon, on January 17! Starting in downtown Phoenix and finishing in the Arizona State University’s Sun Angel Stadium, we’ll be entertained throughout the 26.2 mile course with bands at each mile marker.

I just ordered a copy of Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide, by Hal Higdon, a contributing editor to Runner’s World and a completer of over 100 marathons.  Let’s hope Hal gets me through this
